Weight Training Without Stepping Foot In A Gym

Gyms are great. They are chock full of different free weights, weight machines and cardio machines. With an almost endless selection of free weights and machines you can target any muscle in the body with a host of different machines, angles and the like. As personal trainers we literally live inside gyms and as the majority of our waking hours are spent in these establishments we better darn well love them or we're in the wrong profession. With all of that said I can train anybody to be as big, strong and lean as they like and I can do it without ever stepping foot in a gym.
Again, I love gyms and most of my time is spent in them and for good reason. It's very easy to train all of your different muscle group and seamlessly go from training one to training another simply by stepping to the next machine, bench, squat rack or the like. But a person should not feel their potential for muscle growth is in any way inhibited or limited if he or she cannot or does not want to enter a gym. Perhaps someone is very self-conscious about their body and just doesn't feel comfortable in a gym quite yet. Or maybe someone lives in a rural area where access to a gym is not feasible. Whatever the reason I am here to assure you that you can do just as much work and see the same results without a gym membership. It may take a bit more creativity but that creativity often ends up leading to even better results than joining a gym because you are not doing the same tired workout out on the same machines and hitting the same muscles at exactly the same angles over and over again.
With just body weight exercises alone you can really see some insane results but I would strongly suggest, if you choose to workout at home, apartment or in the garage, you get yourself some very basic items that won't cost much and will take up little space. Here are some of those items and what you can expect to pay for each of these items if you were to buy them brand spanking new...
Ab Wheel - $15.00
Weighted Vest - $50.00
Resistance Bands - $20.00
Medicine Ball (8 lbs. should suffice for starters) - $25.00
Dumbbells - $??? Price would be dependent on your current fitness levels and how much you can lift comfortably. Dumbbells are great items to buy secondhand (think Craigslist) because they are pretty much good for life and weigh as much 20 years from now as they do today.
Additional dumbbells, weight benches (depending on how much space you have), and barbells with plates are ideal but these would depend mostly on the space you have available and are not entirely necessary. Adjustable weight dumbbells are very popular now and work great for people with limited space.
So what I have listed above are the tools that can get you in the same amazing shape that any gym can and if you're looking for exercises and workout routines to do with these items from your own home please feel free to check out our website for free training tips and routines and good luck.
